Cloud Architect vs DevOps Engineer: Emerging Job Roles of 2025 https://networkinterview.com/cloud-architect-vs-devops/ https://networkinterview.com/cloud-architect-vs-devops/#respond Tue, 26 Nov 2024 12:10:34 +0000 https://networkinterview.com/?p=15309 Intoduction: Emerging Job Roles

What is the difference between the Cloud Architect and DevOps Engineer? These new roles with growth of Cloud technologies has increased the confusion about roles? In this article, we will try to demystify some of concepts related to both job roles and try to provide clarity about the Cloud Architect and DevOps Engineer and the difference between them. Let’s start with a short introduction to both.

Who is a Cloud Architect?

A Cloud Architect is a technical expert who designs the infrastructure of cloud-based servers and systems by taking the customer or business requirements in the mind.

People often mistake Cloud Administrator and Cloud Engineer for Cloud Architect. The Cloud Administrator manages and oversees the Cloud Operations whereas the Cloud Architect design and remodels them.

They are reflective in the approach. They overlook the problems in the existing infrastructure and designs and reflect the mistakes and create a new infrastructure for the business.

Roles & Responsibilities of Cloud Architect

Here are the roles and responsibilities of the Cloud Architect –

  • They decide the operating procedures, data migration, development operations, etc…
  • Deep knowledge of programming knowledge like Java, PHP, Python, etc… And they should also have experience or a strong understanding of cloud-based platforms like Azure, AWS, and GCP, etc…
  • They should have a futuristic approach and record the designs for future use.
  • Communicates the designs to the other staff, engineers, and technicians and guides them.
  • He/she determines how the cloud infrastructure should be designed and how it should be used to meet the final customers’ needs.
  • The Cloud Architect has to communicate with the major stakeholders and other third parties and convince them to initiate new and innovative methods.

What is DevOps Engineer?

DevOps is expanded as the Development Operations. It is the framework of Software development that acts as a bridge between the development team and the Operations team. The role acts as the bridge between Cloud Operations and Cloud Development.

The prime motive of DevOps is to reduce the barriers in traditional software development and make the process fast and efficient. DevOps team includes the cloud Engineers, cloud technicians, Data managers, Cloud administrators, etc…

In small organizations, there will be only two positions like Cloud Architect and Cloud engineer, but if the organizations were large then they should adopt a DevOps team consisting of various personalities.

Difference between the Cloud Architect and DevOps Engineer

From the above definition, you should have got a basic idea of what we are talking about. From the table given below, you can understand the difference between Architect and DevOps team in a Cloud Platform.

PARAMETER

CLOUD ARCHITECT

DEVOPS ENGINEER

Organizational position

Leader, decision-maker, and organizer of the Cloud Computing A Mediator – Acts as a bridge between the development team and operation team.
Focus Focus on the organizational goals and ensure all the needs and requirements are fulfilled in the design. The DevOps Engineer mainly focuses on the developmental process. He tries to make it fast and reliable.
Area of Work Planning and Designing – look for new upgrades and involve in innovation. A DevOps engineer is responsible for various Development operations and Software application in the cloud platform (Cluster)
Qualifications Bachelor or master degree in computer engineering and cloud-based certifications, or in any related field Bachelor’s degree or basic knowledge in Cloud platforms and deep practical skills.
Duties Communicates with high authorities like the CEO, CTO, business vendors, and suggests to them about new Cloud technologies and methods to adopt them. The DevOps engineer communicates with both the operation and development team and forms a perfect development plan thinking of both sides.
Ranking He/she ranks above all the technical Personals involved in cloud-based solutions. His/her ranking may differ from the organization. He/she might be equal or sub-ordinate to the Cloud Architect.
Alternative Replaces the place of Cloud Administrator In short firms, the role is replaced with Cloud Engineer, tech-consultant, and programmers.

Download the difference table here.

Are you still confused? Okay, let me explain this to you in an understandable way.

Assume DevOps Engineer as a builder and Cloud Architect as an Engineer. A builder will know how to build, how to put the bricks, and how to efficiently use the building tools. The Engineer designs the plan including the ventilation, wire connections details.

The same applied to software development. If you have any further questions please leave them in the comment section.

How to make a career as a SaaS Developer? https://networkinterview.com/how-to-make-a-career-as-a-saas-developer/ https://networkinterview.com/how-to-make-a-career-as-a-saas-developer/#respond Sun, 06 Nov 2022 09:21:40 +0000 https://networkinterview.com/?p=18618 Software as a service (SaaS) is a type of software deployment model that delivers software services to users over the internet. The SaaS model enables third-party vendors to develop and host software applications so they can be accessed by consumers through a website, mobile app, or some other online platform.

Working as a SaaS developer means you’ll build apps for third-party businesses that sell access to their software as a service to end users. You might build these apps from scratch or use an application development framework such as Salesforce Lightning, Appccelerate, or Google APIs to speed up your development process.

If you’re interested in becoming a SaaS developer, this article will give you all the information you need to get started on your new career path.

What is a SaaS Developer?

A SaaS developer builds apps that are delivered as a service over the internet. The SaaS model enables third-party vendors to develop and host software applications so they can be accessed by consumers through a website, mobile app, or some other online platform.

SaaS apps can be used for almost anything, such as productivity tools, CRM systems, billing software, collaboration software, inventory management systems, database management systems, and more.

The SaaS model is appealing to software vendors because it’s less expensive to build and maintain the application. It’s also easier to scale up and down as the demand for the software grows and shrinks.

What Does a SaaS Developer Do?

  • SaaS developers are responsible for building and maintaining the software that powers a SaaS vendor’s business. If a company is selling access to its software as a service, you’ll probably find a SaaS developer on its team.
  • The SaaS developer builds the application, tests for bugs and defects, and helps iron out the kinks before the software is released to the public.
  • SaaS developers may also be responsible for maintaining and scaling their application as it grows. This may include monitoring the application’s uptime, analyzing user data to find bottlenecks and errors (and correcting them accordingly), and scaling the application to handle more simultaneous users.

Responsibilities of a SaaS Developer

As a SaaS developer, you’ll need to keep an eye on two things: the product and the business.

  • The product side of your job will involve building and maintaining the software that powers a SaaS vendor’s business. You may work with a development team to create the application, or you may be responsible for the entire development process yourself. Depending on the company, you may also be responsible for the design/user interface (UI) of the application.
  • The business side of your job will involve helping the company understand its customers. You may be involved in marketing activities, customer interviews, surveys, and other types of research. The SaaS developer also tracks the product’s performance and user feedback. You’ll need to make sure the product is working as expected, and that customers are receiving the best possible experience from it.

What skills does a SaaS developer need?

As a SaaS developer, you’ll need to have a wide range of technical and non-technical skills. The most important things you’ll need are the ability to communicate, curiosity, and the ability to solve problems.

  • To build high-quality software, you’ll need to be comfortable with a wide range of development languages, APIs, and design tools. Depending on the company, you may be building your application with technologies like Java, Python, .NET, Ruby, Javascript, Angular, or PHP.
  • You may also be using NoSQL databases, or data visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
  • If you’re building an application for the web, you’ll probably need to be comfortable with the design principles of user experience design (UX).
  • You’ll also need to be able to communicate with the rest of the team and have a general understanding of marketing principles.
  • You’ll also need curiosity – curiosity about your customers, curiosity about the competition, curiosity about emerging technologies, and curiosity about business models.

Is it hard to get a job in SaaS?

The job market for SaaS developers is pretty strong, but the competition is fierce. If you’re looking for a job as a SaaS developer, you’ll need to make sure your resume and cover letter are up to par.

Fortunately, there are plenty of resources available to help you create a solid application. Because SaaS is such a popular model, you can expect to be asked about your experience with it in interviews. You’ll want to be prepared to talk about the SaaS model in general, as well as the most popular SaaS apps.

And since you’ll be applying for jobs with third-party software vendors, you’ll need to make sure your resume stands out. You can do this by including quantifiable results and numbers where applicable, and by focusing on the outcomes you helped achieve.

Conclusion – Should you consider a career in SaaS?

The SaaS model is growing in popularity because it’s cheaper and easier to maintain than traditional software deployment models. If you’re interested in a career in software, SaaS is a great option.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and new development methodologies. SaaS developers get the chance to work on everything from small pilot projects to massive, enterprise-level implementations.

There are plenty of opportunities out there for SaaS developers, and the demand for this type of work is only growing. The SaaS model is especially appealing to businesses, so you’ll likely see continued growth in this field. If you’re interested in a career in SaaS and software, you might be a great fit for this type of work.

He needs to be aware of the new trends and design tools available in the market and effectively incorporate them into his design. For a business to have a deep effect on the customers, it should have an attractive brand image.

So the Web Designer should choose the layout and style according to the type of business, and he should be aware of the design style of the competitors. But his role doesn’t end with designing, as everyone who has a creative mind can design.

The web Designer is a technical artist who should consider the technical factors like how this design will affect the performance of the website and the cost of the business.

Types of Web Designers

Web designers can be classified into three types as follow-

i) UX Designers

explore the marketing and advertising side of the web designer role. UX designers help the website attract customers and promote a positive experience with the business.

What is a Web Developer?

Web Developer brings the design of Web designer into action. A web developer should have deep technical knowledge and should have problem-solving capacity.

He should use various types of coding language and tools to bring the web design into action without affecting any other features of the website. He is more concerned with the technical side than the user view.

Types of Web Developer

A web Developer can be classified into three types of roles as follow –

i) Back-end Developer:

The work on the core structure of the websites using complex programming languages, the changes or work done by the back-end cannot be seen by the users as they work on the web servers and database.

It may increase the efficiency of sites and help businesses easily analyze data and show suggestions to them.

ii) Front-end developer

It is more connected to Web Designs as it involves changes in the user side or client-side of the site. The developers make the programs and interface using codes that even a non-technical person can make use of.

iii) Full-Stack Developer

As the name goes he does the jobs of both back and front-end developers. They will be experts in web pages using CSS, HTML, etc… and set up API, Query databases, etc…

SAP Technical Hierarchy

Like other famous tech companies, SAP also uses the Band system to classify their workforce. And the Band T stands for the technical Department which extends from T 1 – T 5. Each level has three subdivisions called L 1, L2, L3.

Movement from L1 – L2 is a progression (no salary hike) and movement from T 1 -T 2 is considered as a promotion ( with salary hike). The Average progression happens every 1 or 2 years based on the skills of the candidate.

Okay, as now you got the basic idea about the SAP organizational Structure now let’s see each band in detail.

T 1 – Associate Developer

It is the first position you will place while you enter the SAP as a fresh Engineer Graduate. The L 1 of the T1 is an intern or trainee, L 2 is a Junior Developer/ Associate, etc… like this, the progression goes on.

If you have progressed above T2 L2 then you are ranked equal to a specialist. The Average Annual Salary of a Developer in SAP is $ 125,000.

T 3 – Senior Developer

And after 5 years of experience, you will be promoted as a Senior Developer. As a Senior Developer, you are fully responsible for the whole software development, he/she instructs the production, marketing, and sales department about the attributes of a new product.

The Average Annual Salary of a Senior Developer in SAP is $155,000. After this, your promotion period varies based on your skills and working nature. Thus there is no defined promotion period.

T 4 – Architect

Once promoted to an Architect you will be responsible for the design, planning of the whole software development life cycle or project. Sometimes the architect is also referred to as the project manager. It is a high-level position that is more respectable in the firm.

The Average Annual Salary of an Architect in SAP is $200,000- $210,000

T 5 – Chief Architect

The Average Annual Salary of a Chief Architect in SAP is $260,000- $265,000.

Conclusion

The Technical positions of the SAP come to end here, however, there are still many higher positions as technical or software Engineer can go if he develops the business or managerial skill. Here are some of the – CTO, Director, Vice President, CEO, etc…

Pre-sale vs Post-sale : Know the difference https://networkinterview.com/pre-sale-vs-post-sale/ https://networkinterview.com/pre-sale-vs-post-sale/#respond Sun, 15 May 2022 06:26:19 +0000 https://networkinterview.com/?p=13113 Introduction to Pre-sale & Post-sale

Specialization of sales engineers should be in technology and scientifically advanced products. With the help of technical skills, they explain the advantages of the products or services to the potential customers and also tell how their services or products are better than their competitor’s one. The companies that design and build technical products hire the sales engineer.

We can say that the work of the sales engineers is like that of salespersons. They must have the ability to convince the clients for buying their service or products, negotiate a price, and complete the task by selling them. To fulfill this task, the sales engineer has to give the technical presentations in which they describe the technical aspects related to the product and how it is helpful to solve the technical issue of the customer.

Some sales engineers work with the team of the technically proficient resources who focus on the technical aspects as the marketing and selling portion is covered by the salesperson. These resources, may be part of sales workforce and are called pre-sale resources. Such role requires a combination of business sense along with understanding of product and solution technical viability.

Post- Sale is comparatively a different flavour to pre-sales. It basically means after-sales where the role involves all the activities and the experiences that follow after the sale of product or solution.

Comparison : Pre-sale vs Post-sale

Purpose:

The purpose of the pre-sale engineer is designing the solution for both the existing and potential customers. To complete this task, they must have knowledge of current IT setup in place. It is imperative to share that discovery of customer incumbent solution components takes place during the pre-sales stage. Further, it also needs experience in supporting the sales function in a technical environment. The role also requires extensive knowledge of technologies and demands the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Whereas post-sale engineer’s primary accountability is to represent the technical solution of the client network. They also have advancement in technology and representing a solid solution for the networking industry. They have to help customers and partners evaluate, adopt and expand the use of their networking product. Person working in the shoes of Post-sales role is required to gather all the technical and contract related documents from pre-sales person for smooth end to end provisions of the solution and maintenance of its lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

Pre-sale:

  • Lead as a senior connectivity design for all sales opportunities.
  • Influence, persuade and negotiate with senior stakeholders in member and customer organizations
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to customers.
  • To ensure effective collaboration in responding to customer needs, develop working relationships with partner organizations
  • To support pre-sales activities, they engage directly with sales and account teams

Post-sale:

  • During product evaluations and post-sales, perform hands-on work with customers
  • If required, Pre-sales technical support is provided and also technical expertise to our customers and partners
  • Integrate into existing management, monitoring, and provisioning frameworks for a better product.
  • Perform tests to validate customer proof-of-concept setups, network deployments, and network designs.
  • Keep up-to-date on competitive solutions, services, and products.
  • Design guidelines and recommend improvements to customers for the networks they support
  • Provide feedback to engineering and product management.

 Skills:

Pre-sale

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skill
  • Self-motivated, and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to adapt to new issues and situations.
  • Customer-focused, with a strong track record in placing customer needs at the heart of decision making
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Post-sale

  • Team working ability.
  • A solid technical background.
  • Resilience and tenacity.
  • Sound judgment and good business sense.
  • Increasingly, foreign language skills are in demand.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Both pre-sale and post-sale are very important for any organization, especially for technical businesses. The task of both of them is are quite similar and they also rely on each other to fulfill their work. Presales people help in answering the queries or technical questions and also have the ability to demonstrate products. If they can show a prospect of how the product will help them, then this helps in making the sale with ease. Post-sales are also important especially for customer support, retention and good service.

Ericsson: Technical Hierarchy https://networkinterview.com/ericsson-technical-hierarchy/ https://networkinterview.com/ericsson-technical-hierarchy/#respond Sun, 01 May 2022 01:30:41 +0000 https://networkinterview.com/?p=15251 It is important to know about the Hierarchy of the organization. Because the hierarchy level gives you the idea about your future chances and the person who you need to report. It reduces the unwanted hesitation and nervousness within you.

So, are you hired in ERICSSON? Willing to know about the technical hierarchy level in the company? You are in the right place. In this article, you will get a clear understanding of it.

About ERICSSON

Before we get started, here is a short introduction about the ERICSSON and what they do.

ERICSSON is a little different from the other IT companies. It is a Swedish Multinational company that provides networking, telecommunications, and other information technology services all around the world. It first started as a telecommunication company that produces many products and services that can help and fix the communications in mobile phones, and several generations of Radios.

After the IT revolution and the involvement of big data forced them to enter this IT market. It is an Information and Communication Technology Company (ICT) with more than 101,322 employees(2021). Now ERICSSON has been leading the world with the introduction of 5G.

You can also watch this video for better understanding:

Technical Hierarchy in ERICSSON

As a traditional company with a long history, the hierarchy of the ERICSSON is a little complex. Unlike other IT companies they don’t follow any particular band systems to the positions or designations. It is said ERICSSON follows a staging system but that is also not clear to outsiders.

As ERICSSON deals both with communication and Information technology it is hard to draw the exact chain of command in the ERICSSON. Here is how most of the past employees of ERICSSON reported it.

Stage 4 – GET/AET

GET and AET refers to Graduate Engineer Trainee and Assistant Engineer Trainee. It is the basic technical position in ERICSSON. When you finish your graduation and join the company you will be positioned in this stage.

Here you will be completely trained in the workings of the organizations. You will be promoted to the next stage after 6 or 18 months based on your performance.

Stage 5 – Assistant Engineer

After more than one year of training, you will be appointed as the Assistant engineer where you will work under the Engineers. You will help the engineer in the development, consultation, and maintenance of IT projects.

This is the stage where you can explore different challenges and learn from them. Once you get enough experience to handle the assignment on your own you will be promoted. Mostly it will be after 2 or 3 years.

Stage 6 – Engineer

After getting promoted to engineer you will have many responsibilities. You need to finish the assignments allotted to you, and also suggest or convey your innovative ideas to the superiors.

You are no more subordinate, you will be given mini-tasks or assignments on the whole project. Sometimes you will be the one who is fully in charge of the project if it’s a small one.

Stage 7 – Senior Engineer or Team Lead

There is no difference in the role or responsibilities between the previous position and this. The only thing is you will be more experienced and assigned as the leader of a set of Engineers.

You are responsible to maintain good cooperation between the team members. As a senior engineer or specialist, you should be able to guide the team members in the case of challenges.

Stage 8 – Project Manager or Senior Specialists

A project manager is a person who communicates with the client and plans the projects according to their needs. He/she will have technical qualities however mostly focused on the managerial aspect.

They act as a bridge between the business or administration and the technical team. They ensure whether the rules and regulations of the company are followed in the products.

After stage 8 the hierarchy in the ERICSSON mostly covers the managerial and business aspects than the technical side. The hierarchy after Stage 8 goes like this.

  • Senior manager
  • Associate/Assistant Director
  • Director
  • Vice President
  • CEO or President.
  • Chairman

The stage system explained in the article is just an assumption; there is no clear information about the stages and hierarchy level in the ERICSSON. If you have any further doubts please share them in the comment section.

The people in the Middle-level positions will be specialized in any particular department or technique. After gaining enough experience in the base level you will be promoted to the Middle level. There is less chance for you to directly hire into these positions unless you are an engineering graduate with more than 5 years of experience in other big companies. Or you should have a special skill or idea that will turn the table.

In the MICROSOFT workforce, the entry and middle levels cover more than 80%, These high ups are very few because they play a very important role in the organization. The positions that come under this Elite level are –

  • Technical Recruitment Manager
  • Senior Software Testing Manager

  • Software Configuration management Administrator
  • Project Head

  • Technical Director Etc…

The salary can be different between the persons in the same category, because of the ranking or leveling system followed in the MICROSOFT. For example, the Principal Program Manager (PM) or Software Development Engineer (SDE), or Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) can earn more than senior or Normal PM/SDE/SDET.

Though they all are covered under the same category their salaries differ because Principal PM is ranked as Level 65-67 whereas the normal PM level is between 61 and 62.

If you have any further doubts relating to the duties, salaries, responsibilities, etc… Of the technical hierarchy in MICROSOFT please share them in the comment section below.

HCL Technical Hierarchy: MNC Jobs https://networkinterview.com/hcl-technical-hierarchy-mnc-jobs/ https://networkinterview.com/hcl-technical-hierarchy-mnc-jobs/#respond Thu, 03 Feb 2022 03:54:14 +0000 https://networkinterview.com/?p=15238 Have you got a job in HCL? Are you wondering about your position in the internal chain of command of the company? You are in the right place.

In this article you will get a clear idea about the technical hierarchy of the HCL Company. Before that here is a short introduction about HCL.

A short Introduction on HCL

HCL is the leading Information technology company based in India. It has been serving numerous clients and businesses all around the world through its digital technology transformation. It has its offices in 52 countries with an employee strength of 197,777 (as on 31th December, 2021). Their clients include 250 of 500 Fortune India and 650 of Global 2000.

You can also watch this video for better understanding:

Technical Hierarchy in HCL

The Technical Hierarchy in the HCL is not much different from the ones in other Multinational IT companies. They also follow the band system with different names.

Here is how the technical Hierarchy of the HCL goes…

E0 – Software Engineer

As with every other organization when you finish your engineering graduation you will get hired as a software engineer. It is the base band of the HCL. The software engineer will be responsible for the software development and maintenance.

The average annual salary of the software Engineer in HCL is 4 lakhs in Indian rupees. You will be serving as the software engineer for the first 6- 8 months.

E1 – Senior Software Engineer

This E1 band has two sub-division as E1.1 and E1.2. The positions of the two-division can be available based on the size and working of the branch or office. However, the E1 band covers the positions like senior software Engineers or consultants.

You will be serving in this category for 3 to 5 years. The average annual salary of the HCL company is 8 lakhs in Indian rupees.

E2 – Technical Leader

On successful promotion from the E1, you will be assigned as the E2 band level authority. As with the previous one, this also consists of two subsections, like E2.1 and E2.2.

The team leader or senior consultant falls under this band category. However, this may vary from department to department. In some departments, the Associate managers are also considered in the E2.2 band level.

The major responsibilities of the authorities at the band level are to manage and lead the group of engineers or persons. As there is no clear explanation about the position in this category, let assume the team leader and other related positions at this band level.

The average salary of the Team Leader in HCL India is 10-11 lakhs  INR per year.

E3 – Project Manager

When you join the company you will only be able to reach or report to this band level. This band E3 covers all the persons and authorities like technical specialists, project manager, senior project manager, Associate General Manager Etc…

The major responsibility of the person in this band is to manage the projects of the company and assign the tasks to each person. In some cases like tech specialists, they express their expert view on the projects.

E4- Group Project Manager

E3 and E4 bands are very similar, the main difference between them is the level or amount of projects handled by them. It can also contain the same positions like Tech specialists, associate general manager, and group project manager.

The persons in this band are more experienced than the E2. And their salary is also a little higher than the previous one.

E5 – E9 (Administration & Management Based)

It is always hard to find the internal chain of command of an organization. However, it is speculated that the bands above E5 will consist of the main persons and authority.

The technical positions end by E4 after that most of the positions are administration and management based. Here is the rough assumption about it.

  • Deputy General manager
  • General Manager
  • Director (for each department)
  • Senior Director
  • Associate president
  • Vice president

E10 or EX

The CEO, president, and Chairman falls under E10 or EX Band.

This article should have given you a basic idea about the technical hierarchy of the HCL. If you have any further questions please leave them in the comment section.
